Great Price KidKraft 53156 for $134.99

KidKraft Red Vintage Kitchen Review

I wanted this particular kitchen for my daughter as her big Christmas present. I liked the vintage look, since it would be in our family room...I didn't want a big plastic dora kitchen in the midde of my family room. I also really liked that it was a fairly gender neutral girl, as I didn't want a pink kitchen that screams girl. For some reason, around Christmas time, there were some changes made to the kitchen, which meant that it was out of stock or backordered everywhere and I ended paying about -70 more for it from some independent seller I found on Amazon. I do think it is made in China, but I think it's still more durable than the plastic ones and pretty well made. In any case, it was super time consuming to put together. I (the mother) put it together because my husband doesn't believe in looking at instructions after whining after the first step, I relieved him of his duties. I honestly think it took me about 6 hours to put together. I am not particularly handy and wouldn't really be able to drill new holes where there are none, but I can follow directions. All in all, I would say it was not difficult to put together per se, as much as time consuming. All the parts were there, labeled and included in the instructions...you just have to go through many steps. In the end, it was worth it for me and our daughter. She loved it on Christmas morning and loves it to this day. I would say that there is not a day that goes by (9 months later) that she doesn't play with it. It has held up very well, with the exception of a piece of plastic that broke off one of the burners. I think it's a great size for toddlers. I love that it has many features in one, that a fridge, micro, and phone are included (not just a stove). My daughter loves the phone and often uses it to call Mickey and company. It is so cute that I realy don't mind it in my family room. Lastly, my daughter really loves our house, much more than the two other places we lived in her 2.5 years of life. My family lives nearby so she often goes to relatives houses with fun relatives and cousins and while she enjoys playing there, she often requests to go back to her house at a certain point. Obviously, I would hope that my husband and I have created a comfortable and homey feeling in her home, but I honestly think that she really loves her house because that's where she has her things, and top among that, is this kitchen. Even though I paid an annoying surcharge/overage for this particular kitchen (more than the pink one let's say) at the time I bought, I don't regret it at all and my daughter loves it.

A truly tortuous assembly experience - Brett W. Leitner - New York, NY
Please read M. Evers review for a specific rundown of each and every maddening aspect of assembling this product. I had the EXACT SAME reaction, item for item. The designers of this toy are truly sadistic, or perhaps this is just a cruel joke played on unsuspecting parents. I don't mind assembling things, and sometimes I even enjoy the challenge. I have two children and have already assembled various toys and gear over the years. I've also assembled plenty of IKEA products over the years, all to great success. Never in my life have I seen something so profoundly idiotic as the assembly process/instruction manual for this product. Why such a toy requires so many different parts and screws is beyond me. But if they are going to be required, they should at least make sure that everything fits well into its slot and doesn't require one being a contortionist to out something in its rightful place. Specifically, the process of affixing teeny tiny screws to the door hinges is one of the stupidest designs I have ever seen in my life. First of all, one needs the fingers of a baby doll to handle these screws. Second, as mentioned, these screws fit terribly into the pre-drilled holes. Third, one needs an extra person to provide leverage against the door so it can be screwed in, which is just ridiculous. And lastly, why require all these screws for a hinge when there should be a simple interlocking mechanism that snaps into place?? Had my daughter not seen the box for this kitchen and gotten all excited, I would have either returned the whole thing or smashed it to smithereens out of sheer frustration. While the finished product is indeed nice and my daughter loves it, I do NOT recommend it. There has to be other kitchens on the market that are just as nice and do not require the outrageously complicated assembly process of this unit. The makers should be ashamed of how they designed this product.

Love it! - Allison - Washington, DC
We get many compliments on the kitchen, and our son (now 2.5) uses it all the time. We've had it for a year now. the door latches can be a little funky - I think one door won't quite stay closed all the way - but that's my only complaint, besides the fact that the stove burners are hard to clean.

It was pretty easy to put together (we did it in a couple hours, most of the time chasing the toddler around because he stole parts) - just don't do it when the kids are around and it'll make your life easier :) I am very, very happy with this product! Also, the Melissa and Doug kitchen pans/food work well with this set.

Adorable kitchen - MLP -
We got this kitchen for our daughter for her 2nd birthday, and it is exactly what we wanted. Well made, seems durable so far. Good price, and not enormous! Definitely recommend.
